GIF Sundsvall's crisis continues - loss to Sandviken

GIF Sundsvall continues to struggle with crisis after a heavy loss to Sandviken with 5-0. The team now has seven consecutive losses in Superettan.

The match was clearly won from the start and Sandvikens IF won with 5-0 on Jernvallen. The home team took advantage of their lead and made it 3-0 through Christian Wagner.

  • There's really nothing bad to say. We've been aggressive since the first minute and won many duels. It's been a good first half and I'm very pleased with the goal, said Sandvikens Alan Carleton to TV4 at halftime.

Carleton celebrated his 2-0 goal by lying on his back with the ball behind his neck, a celebration he had planned in advance.

  • I thought of it a few days ago and thought: 'Why not?'. When I scored today, I thought of it immediately, he said.
  • It's a tough half. We're giving away too many chances both between the teams and on the flanks. They're getting through us too easily. We need to find more balls behind their backline so that they have to work backwards and we can become more forward-oriented, said Gif Sundsvall's Amaro Bahtijar.

In the second half, Sandviken controlled the events and made it 4-0 through Victor Backman in the 83rd minute and then 5-0 through Anomnachi Chidi in the 93rd minute.

The win means three important points for Sandviken and a successful first home match for Thomas Lagerlöf as head coach.

For Sundsvall, the afternoon became even heavier. The loss was the team's seventh consecutive loss in Superettan and the crisis in the bottom of the table deepened further.

  • Very good from minute one. We put pressure on them directly and hit them very hard, says Sandvikens Gustav Thörn to TV4 after the match.
  • Overall, it's tough. When we're down 3-0 and trying to turn the match around, it's hard. We're giving away too many easy goals at the back, says Gif Sundsvall's Ludvig Nåvik.

GIF Sundsvall is now in 16th place in Superettan with 9 points after 17 matches. The team has 3 wins, 0 draws and 14 losses. They also have a -28 goal difference.

GIF Sundsvall is now 26 points behind the leaders IFK Norrköping in the table.

The team has their next match at home against Helsingborg on August 16th.
