GIF Sundsvall continues to lose in Superettan. The Norrlandsderbyt match against Östersunds FK was interrupted after pyrotechnics were thrown onto the field. It was the tenth of June since GIF Sundsvall last took points in superettan, when they defeated Örebro SK. Since then, the series leader "Giffarna" had lost six consecutive matches. Before Friday's Norrlandsderby against ÖFK, Sundsvall was on its way to a new loss. When several pyrotechnic pieces were thrown from the Sundsvall stands in the 89th minute. Some of the pieces landed on the grass outside the field and led to a small fire, which was quickly extinguished. The referee stopped the match in about five minutes and gathered the players at the center line before the match could be resumed. It was the top team Östersund that had previously scored the first goal of the match Jabir Abdihakim Ali, who scored 1-0 in the 23rd minute, assisted by Simon Marklund. - I'm really happy. I maybe should have scored on some chance earlier, but it was a fine pass from Marklund, who is a fantastic player, said Ali about his 1-0 goal to TV4. Ali's full shot became the only goal and Östersund secured their position at the top of the superettan table with the win. For GIF Sundsvall, the situation remains dark. The team is stuck at the bottom of the table and suffered their seventh consecutive loss. - We're fighting and struggling, but it's small details in matches that make us lose in match after match. We lose the ball in a few wrong places, make wrong decisions, and are a bit stressed, says Sundsvall's captain Lucas Forsberg to TV4 after the match. Forsberg thinks that the derby was a step forward compared to the big loss against Sandviken in the previous round. - Definitely. Then we got 5-0-torsked and barely touched the ball. So it's progress. But in the end, it's the result that counts - and we can't get that. GIF Sundsvall is now 16th in Superettan with 9 points after 18 matches. The team has scored 13 goals and conceded 42. They are 26 points behind the leaders IFK Norrköping. The next match is at home against Helsingborg on August 16.
