GIF Sundsvall Seeks Strengthening
GIF Sundsvall, one of Sweden’s top clubs in the Allsvenskan league, is close to finalizing a significant transfer deal for Orange County SC striker Ronaldo Damus. The move, as reported by ESPN, includes a substantial transfer fee (in USD) and additional incentives, making it a notable acquisition for the Swedish club.
Player Profile and Performance
Damus, a 22-year-old Haiti international, has made a name for himself in USL Championship play. During the 2021 regular season, he ranked tied for seventh with 16 goals, showcasing his offensive prowess. His performances were further highlighted by scoring two crucial goals in the USL Championship final as Orange County SC defeated Tampa Bay Rowdies.
Prior to joining Orange County, Damus spent two seasons in USL League One with North Texas SC and had a brief stint at FC Dallas' academy. He even won the Golden Boot award for USL League One in 2019, cementing his reputation as a goal scorer.
Previous Transfer News
This move is part of a growing trend of players from the USL Championship moving to Sundsvall. Forrest Lasso, a former defender with Tampa Bay Rowdies, was announced as the first player to make the move earlier this year. Additionally, Sundsvall is also pursuing Joe Corona, a former United States international who has spent the last four seasons in Major League Soccer with LA Galaxy and Houston Dynamo.
The transfer of Damus would not only bolster Sundsvall's attacking lineup but also strengthen their presence in the Allsvenskan league, making it an exciting development for both clubs.
